  • Really funny piece about Bansha as a tourist attraction

Taken from the 1994 Abbey Annual

    By Unknown

    "Functional Writing

Question: Write an article for a magazine (to be published abroad) in which you describe a city or town in Ireland which appeals to you. The purpose of this article is to encourage tourists to visit the place you describe so you should be positive and mention a variety of attractions.

Answer: The village of Bansha has many attractions and was made famous by the saying, "Don't blink or you'll miss it".

It is worthy of its world fame and boasts sun-drenched beaches, numerous sites and its most famous recent addition was running water which was brought out to Bansha on April 1st 1992.

For the more adventurous one can go bungy jumping off 'The Bansha Falls', (the world famous waterfall) but you have to book early as the cattle in the surrounding area are constantly hogging it.

There are many sites in Bansha all of which can be seen from its massive nature walk which is almost two metres long. It is all in Bansha. There is 'The Statue of Technology', awarded to Bansha by Aherlow when their united efforts to invent the triangular wheel paid off. There are at the moment trying to invent a circular wheel but all attempts so far have failed.

Among the other attractions is the world's smallest theatre (which is currently showing Snow White and the Two Dwarfs), a two-holed pitch and putt course and a shop. If that is all too much excitement you can relax and try to communicate with the people who live there who cannot speak a language but are very friendly.

So whether you want sun, fun, relaxation or just to see the sites, Bansha is the place to go."
