About Me

Me, Myself, and I
Six Five, Two Fifty, size 14 shoe, Czech/Black Irish, Brown/Brown, father of one, living in delicious sin with my professionally-employed girlfriend, state worker, responsible citizen, glib wiseass.
Music
the Stones, the Pixies, Soul Coughing/Mike Doughty, the Mekons, the Gang of Four, the Afghan Whigs/the Twilight Singers, the Drive-By Truckers, Tom Waits, Television/Tom Verlaine, Shriekback, Chris Whitley, Warren Zevon, Lucinda Williams, Neil Young, PJ Harvey, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Robert Fripp/King Crimson, John Zorn, Bob Marley, the Liars, Beatles, Devin Davis, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the Golden Palomino's, the Ponys, Miles Davis, the Who, Marshall Crenshaw, the Clash, Robbie Fulks, Alejandro Escovedo, the Detroit Cobras, the MC5/Wayne Kramer, Eleventh Dream Day, Los Lobos/the Latin Playboys, the Kinks, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, the Talking Heads, John Coltrane, the Ramones, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, the Beat Farmers/Country Dick Montana (God Rest his dee-ranged soul), Pere Ubu/Rocket From The Tombs, Randy Newman, the Velvet Underground/Lou Reed/John Cale, Jeff Beck, the Hoodoo Gurus and around 269 other bands I'd list but this puny-ass window ran outta room.
Films
A Representative Ten, Not Limited To and In No Particular Order......

Dr. Strangelove, Apocolypse Now, Repo Man, The Last Emperor, Spinal Tap, The Silence of the Lambs, Citizen Kane, 12 Monkeys, The Aristocrats and The Stunt Man.
Sports
When pressed, I'll root for the Cards, the White Sox and the Illini, but I usually prefer to watch the skill and talent involved - and I don't give a hoot about who's doing it. (Admit it, is a beautifully placed line shot really somehow "better" just because Pete Sampras laid it down? Or is it still thrilling even if Bobby Riggs slopped it? That's what I'm talkin' about....)
Concerned About
Humorless, nervous dirtclods, regardless of their political, socio-economic or religious rank or affiliation, the kind of folks that can't tell when they're getting their legs pulled. Especially ones that have somehow gotten their grubby little hands on even a smidgen of power.........

(But, then........who DOES enjoy people like that? I'll bet that cuddly li'l Sith Lord Dick Cheney does......)
Happiest When
Listening to my girlfriend's adorably incoherent just-woke-up babblings first thing in the morning; Buggin' to Bitchin' Tunes (A highly selective and certainly subjective definition, to be sure. Open to discussion.); Buddying up with friendly dogs, eatin' Spicy food, Watching Movies that don't insult yer intelligence (Ditto for books), meeting innerestin' peoples (and annoying the dull ones), Canoeing the Ozarks, Imbibing in A Well-Crafted Spirit (or two, or three or seven...) and messing with the heads of Wrong Numbers.
Books
Hunter S Thompson, Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, Lester Bangs, Harlan Ellison, Alan Moore, Kurt Vonnegut, Richard Brautigan, H.L. Mencken, Tim Crouse, Howard Chaykin, Joseph Heller, Greil Marcus, Tom Robbins, many others....

  • Craptastic Summer Blockbusters.

Christ On A Cracker, did "Transformers" ever blow dogs. I'll defy anybody to prove me wrong, but be warned I won't waste time arguing with 13-year-olds that really just don't know any better........
