  • NEW YORK! NEW YORK!

We left Boston early in the morning and caught the cheapest bus we could find to New York. We found an asian bus company called Fung Wa and it cost $15 from Boston to New York. Sure, it sounded dodge and we'd heard that the company didnt have the best reputation for ...staying on the road. But it was cheap. It was a 5 hour bus ride and ofcourse we had a stop off at maccas along the way. We slept most of the way and woke up just as we drove through the Bronx. The bus dropped us on the side of the road right in the middle of Chinatown, so Georgia, Dave and I were left to find out how to get to our hostel. Carrying 24kgs on my back (yes ...i know! i cant travel light :) ) and pushing our way through the packed streets in Chinatown wasnt my idea of fun. We ended up spending the afternoon pretty much on the subway system because we took a few wrong turns. 2 hours later we found our hostel in Manhatten, finally! That night we went to Charlie Murphys stand up comedy on Broadway which was soooo much fun. His uncle also did stand up before him. His jokes were pretty crude for a 60 year old. We didntspend anywhere near enough time in New York, we could have easily stayed two weeks. So in the few days we had we went to Ground Zero and did a tour which took us around the site of 9/11, it was pretty eary. We took a boat ride out to the Statue of Liberty one afternoon and then later went up the top of the Empire State Building which looked out over the whole of Manhatten and New York. New York is huge. There are just hundreds of buildings and apartment blocks as far as you can see. The streets in New York are always busy. On our other nights in New York we went to an improv stand up comedy, by a few amature comedians. They were actually really good. We went out on Broadway and Times Square...all the touristy things! oh oh and one night we went and saw a broadway show (Chicago) on broadway!! And for my last night in New York before i left Dave and George we caught up with our room mate Becca that we met in boston and went out in Little Italy to an really nice organic restuarant. We started off having long island ice teas then headed to a bar later on. I left everyone to it at 1.30am and headed back to the hostel to catch my flight to Vancouver. Probably not the best idea flying drunk, but it was always going to be a killer day of flying. I had to first fly from NY to Washington, then Washington to Vancouver and then had a 5 hour wait in Vancouver before flying to London. I nearly missed my stop at the airport because i fell asleep on the bus, luckily the driver woke me up and asked where i was going...stylish! So after over 24 hours of flying i finally arrived in LONDON!!!! Im living in Chiswick with 9 other people (including fleur, gem and Loz from school!). My first night out they introduced me to snakebites (a mixture of beer, cider and grenadine) and we went to the walkabout (a chain of aussie bars in the UK) Im having a really great time and its so good catchin gup with gem, fleur and loz. the weather has been perfect to. Already done a bit of sight seeing (the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Chinatown) and went shopping on Oxford Street. I knew it was going to be expensive in London, but its RRRREALLY expensive. Im heading off to see reli's next week then off to Italy, Spain and France for 5 weeks. Will keep you all posted.

  • Boston

Boston is another cute city. i seem to say it about all of them but i loved Boston. The first day in Boston we rode the Old Town Trolley all day and got on and off at different sites. We visited the original Cheers Bar, Boston Common (which is the massive Park in the middle of the city) and Harvard and MIT Universities. Oh and Fenway Park...home of the Boston Red Sox. I lined up with the crazy Red Sox fans for about two hours that in the hopes to get last minute tickets to see them play the New York Yankees. A big game apparently. I gave up in the line after two hours but George and Dave carried on and in the end got in to watch the game. We went whale watching the next day and saw Fin and Mink whales. it was pretty amazing. They were feeding at the time, so they were really active in the water. We saw over 10 whales. That afternoon we went on a freedom trail walking tour of Boston. This is basically a tour which covered the whole history of Boston. it was a pretty long day and by the end we were exhausted. And as the same as every other day, we'd done sooo much walking. That night we ended up going back to harvard and out to one of the uni bars! It was packed and the drinks were really cheap. Always wanted to go to a uni bar!

  • Montreal OUI OUI!

We only had 2 days to explore Montreal but we managed to see it all. We visited a part of Montreal called Old Montreal, which was like a little European village, where the streets are cobble stoned and the streets are lined with little cafes and restuarants. We didnt realise but as we were walking we stumbled along a street where Brad Pitt was filming his next movie. No sight of Brad Pitt but it was pretty exciting to see the set all done up. We pretty much walked all day...as we do most days in each new city and by the end we were exhausted. We also went to another part of Montreal called the Latin Quarter. This was basically the place where most the night life and restuarants where. So we figured because we were in Montreal we might as well eat some french cuisine. That didnt quite work out as majority of the resuarants were far too expensive for us. So we settled for Vietnamese in the Latin Quarter. On our last night in Montreal we went out in the Latin Quarter for a few drinks and ended up going to the largest pub in Northern America. It doesnt really matter what night of the week you go out here, it seemed to be busy every night. I think becuase there are a lot of college people around. Only two more cities to go Boston then NY.

hey jess, hope you got off ok. Whistler is boring at the moment. No one is around and there are newbies showing up everyday. Tommy's is closed and no one goes out now. I have become a hermit. You left a cardigan here at mine. Keep me updated on your travels babe. xxx
