Moments of note so far:
Being in a minivan on top of a mountan during a vicious thunder storm on the way to Arenal, Costa Rica.
Hiking round the bottom of Volcano Arenal, then watching the lava pouring from the top while drinking "lava juice" in the dark, surrounded by flickering fireflies.
The balti hot springs.... lying across the waterfall of a 45 degree hot spring, bliss
Abseiling down 8 waterfalls including a 180 foot sheer drop
White water rafting on the river Balti
Only day 2 of the tour and another 14 to go..

America 07: A review
San diego: Best fun, but probably only cos of Banana Bungalow. Legend of a place. Definite return for a holiday will be required. Beach, sun, sea, happy Ciara.
Tijuana: Messy. Full stop, capital letter.
LA: Has to be done once just for the sightseeing stuff. Other than that, not impressed really.
Las Vegas: Free alcohol, what can i say. Must return when minted for some serious gambling.
San Fran: Not impressed by the city itself but had so much fun i can't complain.
Denver: Shithole. Never go.
Chicago: Favourite city, wanna live there for a year or two at some stage. Savage nights out too.
Indianapolis: Too short. Loved the speedway but should've stayed longer.
Boston: Nice city but quiet enough. Would've been better if we'd found the irish parts earlier or managed to get tickets for some Sox games.
New York: Shopping heaven. Needless to say, i'll be back.
Things we learned:
Never give myself or Marie anything to look after. We WILL lose it. Of if not we'll at least think we lost it! hehe
It's possible to go on the piss for 38 days out of 46 and not kill your liver completely (in fairness to the missing 8 days, we had a few overnight journeys!!)
When budgeting, alcohol will win over food and shopping.
Sleeping under a kitchen table is suprisingly comfy.
Hostel owners don't appreciate you sleeping on their couches rather than in your room.
The Hulk is not the best rollercoaster in the world. Xcelerator at Knotts Berry farm wins hands down.
Don't drink a half bottle of rum when you come home after a night out. The consequences are too severe!
When going to Tijuana, dont get pissed before you get there.
American barmen are legends with their measures. Gonna be tough to get used to irish measures again!
I hate tipping when it's not deserved.
Americans are way better at beer pong. Darn it!! Australians are woefully bad though.
Don't give Marie Russian vodka. Ever.
If you run out of mixer for vodka, beer works suprisingly well. (yes i do still despise beer, but its more bearable when mixed with vokda, trust me!)
Choosing to be homeless for a day will not work out well. Especially if you've been out on a mad one the night before with no sleep and then Meath go and get thrashed to cap it all off. Thanks to Padraig for saving us!
If you buy 'vodka' only for someone to point out halfway through a bottle that you're actually drinking rum, you probably shouldn't have bought it in the first place!
Greyhound stations are scary scary places.
Bus journeys go much faster if you're hungover and didn't get any sleep the night before.
The world is actually even smaller than the cliche suggests...much to my detriment i fear!
Never EVER EVER fly with Delta.
Actually screw that, just don't come home if you can help it!
And last but not least, Marie's a legend...not that we didn't know that already

Thurs 12th July:
Got here to San Diego after about 2 years of flying... Met up with Mo and checked in Banana Bungalow. Bit of a kip i have to admit but such cool people. And can't be complaining when you can see the ocean from your bed. Collapsed into the leabas after all the travelling.
First wanderings around San Diego. We headed out to Fashion Valley for a spot of shopping and met up with Ken for a wee while. Then wandered around Oldtown and tried to figure out if we were actually in Mexico or the US. Dinner then back to the Bungalow for a bit of a party, beer pong involved, always good! Couldn't sneak Ken in then so headed to Open Bar for a few drinks after. Highlight of my year JAGERMEISTER ON TAP!!! couldnt' believe it. I forgot how much i loved America!
Turned into big tourists today and went to the Zoo. Quite impressive actually, loved the Skyfari. If only half the animals weren't asleep and hiding! Had a bit to eat in Oldtown again and now back in the Bungalow to start another nights drinking. Think we're gonna head over to where some of the girls in Marie's class are living, should be good!
Saturday was a wee bit messy in the end. Ran into a big group of Cork guys, half of whom were in Myrtle Beach when i was there on the J1, what're the odds. The amount of coincidences with people we're running into over here is getting scary!.. The hangovers were too bad to get up to much so we spent the day sunbathing, then headed out to PB bar and grill again with the same guys, good laugh.
Mo left us to head off to Chicago so we're suddendly having to find our way around all by ourselves, ah we're managing alright though! Headed to SeaWorld, bit disappointing to be honest, wouldn't be recommending it! Headed out to PB bar and grill again, bit emptier but still good laugh. Bad sign when i'm only in SD a week and the bouncers already know me...
Planned to head to Coronado or however it's spelt but got lazy and just went up to Fashion Valley again for a while and then another day on the beach with some of the lads. All the irish seem to congregate around Banana Bungalow everyday, it's funny. And we're somehow always the last still left drinking til the bitter end when they make us stop at 8.
Not sure of Today's plan. Defo heading to Tijuana tonight but the day has yet to be decided. Perhaps out to Ken for a look around San Diego Uni but we'll see... BIt scared of the TJ thing now after the stories we've been hearing, but it has to be done!
Tijuana turned out to be pretty messy alright. Not scary at all (maainly cos we were severely pissed probably) Got a massive Hummer down which was seriously cool. Then got to the club and you'd to pay 12 dollars in and drinks were then free, just had to pay a dollar tip each time. SO you can imagine the state we were in after a while! Met up with the irish lads from the hostel and some of the cork lads and think we spent most of the time with them. Got a wee bit messy really.
Got back to Banana Bungalow about 7am. Had to check out at 11 so decided there was no point sleeping, we'd just buy more alcohol and keep going. Great idea at the time! Half way through out bottle of vodka someone actually pointed out it was rum we were drinking. Bad bad. Checked out and somehow managed to get on the bus to LA. Met up with Steph and Francis and went out to their place where we're staying while we're here. So glad to have a nice place to sleep!
Slept til noon and then headed off til Universal. Not that impressed to be honest, only good ride was the Jurassic park water one and the Mummy was ok. Francis and Steph made us a savage dinner and then had a quiet night in
Headed off to a shooting range in the morning where we shot a revolver, another tick off the list of things to do before i die! Didn't do too bad, got 3 out of six at one stage.
