Shields mum is made up with new deal.
A SOUTH Tyneside mum is "made up" after clinching a deal to launch her own range of beauty products.
Self-taught make-up artist Lauren Luke, 26, from South Shields, came to the attention of New York-based company Zorbit through her tutorials on video sharing website YouTube.
As revealed by the Gazette, the mum-of-one started posting the 10-minute clips giving make-up tips in June last year, under the user name Panacea81.
Viewing figures now stand at more than 17 million, with a record 84,000 subscribers from across the globe, making her number one in the UK by a cool 10,000 hits.
Zorbit approached Ms Luke with the proposal last month, and she was flown to New York on an all-expenses-paid business trip to discuss some ideas.
She said: "I was approached by the company, which wanted me to go to New York to discuss the idea of my own line of cosmetics, which I agreed to.
"I've never been abroad before, so I was a bit apprehensive about it, but a couple of the girls from Zorbit met me at the airport, so it wasn't too bad.
"They put me up in a hotel in Central Park called AKA, which was lovely. I was there for two days and was shown the sights, as well as discussing the possibility of creating my own make-up range.
"I had my solicitor look over the finer details of the contract and once we were all happy, I signed the deal and am hoping to have my own range of make-up available to buy online by December of this year."
Ms Luke started selling make-up products on Internet auction site eBay when she left her job as a phone operator for a taxi firm.
She soon began getting requests from her customers who wanted to know how to properly apply the make-up, and thought the perfect way to do this would be to use the products on herself while filming the process and posting the videos on the popular site YouTube.
Earlier this year, she bagged a deal with YouTube's owners, Google, which entitles her to earn revenue from adverts displayed on the bottom of her videos, due to their sheer viewer pulling power.
She also landed a contract with UK cosmetic's company Barry M, having her very own page on their official website, including her video tutorials and a question and answer forum for users of the site.
Natasha Turlinski, from branding and product development at Zorbit, said: "We are incredibly excited about this opportunity.
"Lauren is an incredibly talented make-up artist and we are happy to be working with her."

Well, since I was a little girl I have always been quite artistic (I still love pastel drawing) but as I grew older my art skills came out in my make up work. I absolutley adore bright and bold colours and would hate to go a day with out some colour... whacky maybe, but I love it!
I had my little boy when I was young and so my career choices were a bit limited and it was only in the past six months that I decided to make more of my make up work. It was the best decision I have made as I now love what I do.
My sole intention in doing my tutorials is to help others to feel confident, gorgeous and loved, and judging by my many emails, it looks like my efforts have been worth it.
I am now at college studying Make Up and Cosmetics. I love my course and I am glad that I did it so I can back up my work with all the qualifications I need.
I live near Newcastle in the North East of England with my little boy and four dogs (you can sometimes hear them snoring in my videos!) and... that’s me! For now!
I hope you enjoy watching my Barry M tutorials much as I’ve enjoyed making them.
All the best.
