- Me, Myself, and I
- I was educated in CBS Westland Row, UCD and King's Inn. My mother came from Co. Meath and my father was an English sculptor. I joined the Gaelic League in 1895 and was editor of it's official weekly, An Claidheamh Soluis, from 1903 until 1909. My wish to see children provided with a distinctively Irish education led me to founding Scoil Eanna in 1908, initially at Cullenswood House and later in Rathfarnham. In 1912 I edited An Barr Buadh, an all-Irish insurrectionist weekly, and a call to arms to the young men of Ireland. In November 1913 I joined the Irish Volunteers and in December 1913 I joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood.

O'Donovan Rossa's Funeral
The defenders of this realm have
worked well in secret and in the open.
They think they have pacified Ireland;
they think they have foreseen everything thing;
but the fools, the fools, the fools -
They have left us our Fenian dead,
and while Ireland holds these graves,
Ireland unfree will never be at peace!

The Rebel
AND I say to my people's masters:
Beware, beware of the thing that is coming,
beware of the risen people,
who shall take what ye would not give.
Did ye think to conquer the people,
or that Law is stronger than life
and than men's desire to be free?
We will try it out with you,
ye that have harried and held,
Ye that have bullied and bribed, .......
tyrants, hypocrites, liars!380 weeks

Easter Rising3/21/08Easter 1916 I have met them at the close of the day Coming with vivid faces From counter or desk among grey Eighteenth-century houses. I have passed with a nod of the head Or polite meaningless words, Or have lingered awhile and said Polite meaningless words, And thought before I had done Of a mocking tale or a gibe To please a companion Around the fire at the club Being certain that they and I But lived where motley is worn: All changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born. When boyhood's fire was in my blood
I read of ancient freemen,
For Greece and Rome who bravely stood,
Three hundred men and three men;
And then I prayed I yet might see
Our fetters rent in twain,
And Ireland, long a p...
You cannot conqure Ireland. You cannot extinguish the Irish passion for freedom.
