Thousands of years ago, before there were religions, as we know them today, people celebrated the coming of the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and the longest in the southern) perhaps because they were scared the sun was going to extinguish itself forever, as the nights grew longer. When they saw the hours of sunlight growing longer again they were relieved, grateful and celebrated the beginning of a new cycle with song, dance, feast and togetherness.

It is with this in mind that I wish you great joy as we come into a new cycle of life. May this change in seasons mark a new period of faith, action, enlightenment, abundance and happiness for you and all your relations.


I encourage you to take this time to shed whatever is no longer serving you in your life and let in whatever it is that you have been waiting for. The world is in desperate need of people willing to take courageous leaps, and great risks in order to bring about positive change, peace and sustainability in the years to come. I challenge you to think what it is, no matter how great or small, that YOU can do to better serve her in the coming year.

On Wednesday night I was supposed to go to Toronto to hang out with Manas (the drummer for Spearhead) but he called me and told me that the tourbus driver wouldn't drive any furthur so they were in Windsor for the nite. I debated for a long time whether or not to go but eventually I decided that I couldn't pass up the chance to hang out with Spearhead. Leap empty handed into the void. I packed up my car and drove to Windsor. When I got there I was really unsure if I wanted to go in. I was by myself and I would've had to go and know on the door or their hotel room. You know how I avoid awkward situations. I fell asleep in my car for 2 hours in the the hotel parking lot. When I woke up it was 8:30 and I decided that I would go into the hotel and see what happened. When I walked into the lobby Manas was coming out of the bar. We went back into the bar and I had a few drinks with Manas, Dave (guitare player), Robbie (keyboard player), Dino (not sure what his role is, maybe tour manager) and a few others. I didn't get to see Michael.

After a few drinks, Manas and I went up to his hotel room. We hung out for a bit and after a few more drinks, we went to bed (no comment on the next few hours). I left the hotel room at 6am because they had to board the tour bus to go to Toronto and I didn't want to stay in the room without Manas. When I left the hotel room I slept in my car for another 3 hours before driving home to get everyone together to go to Toronto for the concert.

The concert was awesome. I was at the very front center the whole time. I kept making eye contact with Robbie, Dave and Manas and sharing a beautiful smile with them. After the show was over and Michael came into the crowd to greet everyone, Manas came down and gave me and Punkin backstages passes. I got my big hug from Michael and thanked him for being so beautiful. He thanked me for dancing in the front the whole show and remembered me from England. I found Tim, Dustin and Gil and showed them our backstage passes. I told them that I just wanted to go back for awhile to say goodbye to Robbie and Dave and the other that I had met. Tim got all pissed off that I was leaving them to wait in the cold. This upset me a bit because I really wanted to hang out backstage and I was upset that I had to be responsible for everyone because I am the only one with a car and thus the responsibilty lied on me to make sure everyone was happy. I talked to Manas and told him that I couldn't hang out. I did go back for a few minutes to find the band members but I had no idea where i was going so I gave up.

So the point of this story is that I had an amazing time with Spearhead this week. I think that Michael Franti is the most beautiful person ever. I love his huge bare feet and when he opens his mouth as wide as he can with a big smile, I love when he dances around the stage with such love. I love how tall he is and how short Manas and Dave are and the interaction between them. He just emits love. It was so wonderful to be around that. The crowd was awesome too. Everyone was dancing around. Whe he told us to put are arms around our friends, the people dancing beside grabbed me and we danced the whole song with are arms around eachother. It was beautiful.

I also really liked the opening band, State Radio. And I am not sure if you had the same DJ the opened the show but I fell in love with his beauty as well. I am still glowing from the experieince. I really hope that you did go to the show and that you know the beauty of Michael Franti and Spearhead.

I really encourage anyone who hasn't listened to Michael Franti and Spearhead to go out and find some of their music. It is impossible to love. Its good dancing, funky beats with amazing lyric that make you feel that the whole world is wonderful.

So I am spending my last 3 says in Ireland. Punkin and I are staying in a hostel in Belfast. There are 16 other people in our room. It is nice to be in a bed but my mattress sucks. I can feel every spring in it. The people here are quiet and seem to keep to themselves.

Yesterday we went to the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland. It was breathtaking. All of the landscape here is awesome. I am not looking forward to going home to boring, flat, Ontario. In two weeks I will be home . That is a scary thought. What happened to the time?

I think I am done with this blogging thing for now. I will update better later...
