1 Remove bandage after one hour and allow tattoo to breathe. DO NOT RE-BANDAGE.
2 Wash tattoo with clean, warm water. Do NOT scrub. You may use a small amount of mild anti-bacterial soap. DO NOT USE SHOWER GEL OR ANY OIL BASED CLEANSERS.
3 To dry your tattoo, gently dab with a fresh clean towel. DO NOT RUB.
4 Apply ointment (as recommended by you tatooist) to the tattooed area 4-6 times a day, enough should be supplied to you when you attend your appointment.
5 For the next 3-5 days, do not expose your tattoo to direct sunlight or intense heat. The area must be kept clean, however do not immerse or soak your tattoo for prolonged periods. Do not swim in salt, fresh or chlorinated water until completely healed.
6 After 3 days a scab should begin to form. Do NOT pick or scratch at it. If the area feels excessively irritated, keep applying the healing ointment.
7 The scabbing should clear up 7-10 days after your session. The skin may feel dry and wrinkled. A mild hand lotion (i.e. nivea) may be used once a day to moisturise your skin.
8 After healing, you may notice small gaps of missing colour, as some skin types don't take the ink as well as others. Most Tattoo studios are happy to give one free touch-up after healing.
9 Do NOT rely on the advice from anyone who is NOT a professional tattoo artist!!

Important points to consider before getting a tattoo
Try to avoid taking alcohol or non-prescribed drugs prior to attending a tattoo artist. Dutch courage may feel appealing, but these actually heighten the sensitivity of your skin, making your session that little bit more uncomfortable. You'll bleed more too!
Eat a good full meal before attending a tattoo studio, the higher your blood-sugar levels, the better it is for you, and your tattoo.
Try and keep your evening free after getting tattooed, once you get home remove the bandage and relax allowing your new tattoo to breathe.
Most tattooists will have had an unpleasant experience at some point in their otherwise rewarding career and will appreiciate me pointing this out, consider your personal hygiene before visiting a studio. You wouldn't visit a dentist, having not brushed your teeth for two weeks, so don't subject your artist to any obnoxious body odours whilst they are working hard on your body art.
If you want the ink, don't stink!
