LENT: DAY 31
Date: March 5
Time: 2220hrs
So today is officially Day 31 of my Lent. Notice I haven't written "a month" simply because I don't consider February to be an actual month (apologies to all February fans but I really don't care) on account of it wanting to be "special" and having only 28 days this year (and 29 days every four years). Picky? or not good enough to be a "proper" month??
sounds like some Februarians I know
I mean, who really knows why February only has 28 days? I suppose I should find out.
Ok so starting to ask the self questions that the self cannot, at the moment, comprehend or even attempt to answer due to lack of sleep and proper nutrition.
But anyway, I digress.
Day 31 of my Lent means a whole "proper" month of my going without any food other than rice, bread, seafood, fruits, veges and water. I mention these again because one usually takes it for granted that one can get whatever one's palate wants whenever it wants but for the past 31 days, these foods have become a necessity. Literally. Unfortunately I have become thoroughly and utterly sick of rice and tuna (after the first 7 days) so one has had to make do with sardines and garlic bread. Ok so it's not the fancy PizzaHut garlic bread (I wish) but rather (half) a french stick smeared with butter and chopped garlic microwaved for 30seconds to release that tantalising garlicky aroma...sounds appetizing? hmmm ask me again in a week or so...
I can't say I have much variation with my diet since I don't usually have fresh seafood...just tinned fish. I have tuna til I get sick of it then switch to sardines til I get sick of that. Last week I switched back to tuna because I ran out of sardines! Yesterday for Sunday lunch, which, in pre-Lent times is usually roast chicken, chop suey or some other yummy meaty dish, was instead a yummy Lent dish (or sandwich) of tuna and onion (for that extra flavour) on half a french stick! No veges or fruits to be found anywhere in our house! All washed down with good ol' H2O!
Yes, I must take a moment to mention good ol' H2O
The quenching of my thirst has been restricted to water, water and only water so it makes sense that I would get sick of it. If it wasn't for Mizone I think I'd have gone insane and either given up water or resorted to adding sugar to it. I wasn't a fan of "flavoured" water in the beginning but now I think I'm a Mizone addict. Ask our recycling bin.
I'm pretty sure the guys at Mizone have added something to the water (besides the fruity flavour) that makes it so addictive...all they need to do now is add caffeine to it so it can keep me awake!
One's family have become accustomed to one's "unusual" meal choices. However, don't think that the parentals have accepted my doing the Lent!! No, heavens no! Ok so Mum's just happy that the food isn't going as fast as she buys them and Dad just thinks I'm on a weird diet that I should keep doing to really see results.
For those of you who know Dad, you will know that he will think whatever HE wants to think no matter how much you argue your point!
So anyway...Day 31 has about an hour and a half left so I might as well enjoy it while I can! 36 days to go! woohoo!

The Word for Today: A NEW APPROACH TO OBEDIENCE

A New Approach To Obedience
God...is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. - Philippians 2:13 NAS
Paul says, "God...is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." Most of us don't connect obedience with pleasure. We're used to obeying out of necessity or fear. Perhaps we had parents who made us obey "just because I said so." Now it's not wrong for parents to expect obedience from children, or bosses to expect cooperation from their employees. But it's not the best definition or the highest motivation for obedience. The element that's missing is the "want to" factor that God built into each of us at the point of salvation. This takes the "ought to, have to, better do it or else God will destroy you" element out of it. It elevates obeying God to a level of joyful response to all that He's done for you. Obedience is not something you have to manufacture. It's something you have to cultivate, then activate, because the desire is already present in you. This is called "serving the Lord with gladness." Anything else is merely outward compliance.
It's like the boy who misbehaved and was told by his mother to go and sit in the corner. After a few minutes she called to him from the other room, "Are you still sitting down?" He replied, "Yeah, I'm sittin' down on the outside, but I'm standin' up on the inside." You could call that obedience, but actually it's nothing more than outward compliance without the inward response of eager and joyful obedience. Biblical obedience is gladly doing on the outside what you really want to do on the inside.

For lack of a title...
Date: Friday 23 March oops I mean 23 February 2007
Time: 0211hrs
Location: in my office.LOL
I thought I'd update my blog since the last time I wrote in this was last year in November somewhere. The clock's just ticked past ten minutes past two in the morning
but of course by the time I finish typing this the birds will probably be singing the sun out for the new day. Ok that was random.
Hmmm...an update on the happenings: The new year has started and we're already almost three months into it. It has been a productive first two months. The famz from Sa are here visiting, the first half due to return on the 7am flight this morning...it's crazy the times they put these flights on...and to make it worse we have to do next week two days in a row!!!! *pulling naturally dark wavy hair slightly coz one does not wish to have patchy hair*
Ok so it's early morning...yeah right...like that's any excuse for incoherent if not meaningless babblings. I suppose one could be forgiven for the simple fact that one's probably anaemic without any intake, for the past 21 days, of any red meat and haven't the strength to activate ALL brain cells. Why you ask?
The answer: on the night, just before the stroke of midnight, of Feb 1, and before sleep came, I hatched on one of my craziest ideas yet. I don't know if I was already dreaming or not but by the time I had awoken the next day I had already decided that I would start my Lent when the clock struck 12am, Feb 2.
A moment to explain: Lent is you showing some understanding and therefore sympathizing with the pain Jesus went through before and during his crucifixion. Of course no-one could ever imagine an iota of the pain that Jesus suffered but by giving up something that we truly love for 40days we're at least telling him that we're grateful for what he went through [for us] sinful, sinful people.
I had counted (instead of sheep that night) that there are 67days between Feb 2 and Apr 9 (an extra 20days but what the heck!). NB: the Lent is not 40days as is common knowledge but 47days! For 67days I'm giving up ALL foods except rice, bread & butter, seafood (which, since I've started has been mostly tinned fish), fruits, veges and water. I've done the Lent before giving up ALL junk, takeaways, chocolate, milk, coffee...all the "indulge yourself" foods. This time I thought I'd go one step further just because the self will not be a slave to food... but still a slave to cravings
Ok so I'm stubborn and for that reason alone I know I can do it.
Special mention of course goes to Peleinaio'upuisu Gertrude Tatupu
for accepting and still following through with the challenge! Woohoo! One's younger sibling decided it would be great fun to partake of this early Lent challenge and decided to follow with my giving up of all foods except rice, bread & butter, seafood, fruits, veges and water. I write this again because Nef is probably reading this and I'm just reminding her haha...I'll let her write in her own words and in her own time (should she choose to) about her own Lent (no further comments)
But anyway I digress...today is Day 21 (almost 3hrs into Day 21) and because I haven't been up this late since I started Lent (I usually try to sleep early to ignore the hunger pangs which, as of late, have become quite regular since I've only been eating one meal a day of sardines and garlic bread) which is *surprise surprise* the reason why I'm always so drained of energy! I'm quite sure fish has iron! hmmm...can't think straight at the mo'
So anyway...apart from the usual cravings which are usually brought on by the TV ads when I'm watching TV or when everyone around me's pigging out (especially when the family decides to have a BBQ for no apparent reason) I'm doing quite well with my Lent. Fingers crossed that I'm losing dare I say it weight
