Birmingham Lions Preview - xpLosION
It's that time of year again and the University of Birmingham are
hoping that its Lions American football team can set off some of their
own fireworks. After the huge success of xpLosION last year, the Lions
and Pussycats are once again hosting a huge event with activities
spanning the whole weekend. The Lions will be keen to start their
season off with a bang, on Saturday 4th November against Tarannau
Aberystwyth. Birmingham are eager to enlist the substantial support
they received throughout the past year and also encourage new fans to
experience what is sure to be the biggest University event of the
sport's calendar.

The team and the university promise a strong contest of American
football and thus expect an even greater turnout than last year's two
thousand strong crowd. Once again the game is scheduled on the campus'
prestige Bournebrook pitch and will kick-off at 6:00 pm under
floodlights, offering a unique experience of the American sport. As
those who attended last year will know, this pitch affords excellent
viewing, with a natural tier on one side and space around all sides. In
addition, many other appealing facilities are being provided to
accommodate the spectacle.

There will be a full PA system, for commentary and music, the
University of Pussycats cheerleading squad will be putting on an
impressive half time display and there will be a ‘Best Banner'
competition. The winners of which will have the chance to attempt a
field goal kick to win an XBOX. Then, as it is Guy Fawkes' weekend, a
full fireworks display will follow the completion of the game. If all
this wasn't enough, the game will deliver exhilarating passing,
thrilling running and devastating hitting.

Furthermore, across the course of the weekend the NFL will be promoting
the sport of American Football all over the Birmingham campus, with
promotional giveaways throughout the game. Their involvement will
culminate at the guild on Sunday evening where NFL games will be shown
on big screens and further prizes will be on offer. There will also be
XBOX game pods for you to get into the game personally, or just to play
your mates.

Mark down the time and place, Saturday 4 th November at 6:00 pm on the
Bournebrook pitch of the University of Birmingham, and watch the Pride
of Birmingham University – The Lions and the Pussycats. Then on
Sunday evening, complete your American Football experience with a
relaxing drink in Joe's Bar at the guild, and the professionals do
their stuff!
