Well as you all know, on the 16th February I went into the Mount Carmel Hospital to get my tonsil out. So here it my story.


Friday 16th 7am

Got up feeling quite nervous, and not in the best of form. As I toddled downstairs World War 2 was starting with Shauna and Carl killing each other over the remote control!

Had my weak cup of coffee and slice of dry toast as allowed and a quick cig, wondering if the surgeon would cop if I hasa glass of wine!!!!

Got to Hospital early and from the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. Shown to my room, which was 11B, very posh( 3 beds with ensuite) Shaun had to leave as the money in the parking metre was running out( he really does love me)

A lovely nurse called Trilly did the usual Q & A park, and I did very well,seemingly I am very heathly. The best test she did was an oxygen test, which tells the nurse if you lie about smoking. She did mine and said I see you are a non-smoker, as I scored 100. Yipee I always knew I would get an A+ in something. I was due to go to theatre at 1.30pm so I was quite relaxed.

I was then given the "GOWN". It was white with pink writing ( never got around to seeing what it said) Well people can I just tell you, how well I looked, a little bit of mascara and I would have been fabulous.

Now at this stage, I have been without water and food since 8am, I did'nt mind the food, but I was so blood thirsty. Then a nice little ole lady was shown to the bed next to me. She was in her eighties, and I was all awws and god love her. By Jayus could that ole one talk, I got all her childrens lives stories and then her grankids lives stories. I made the mortal mistake of saying I thougth that your sone was blah blah, well she started all the life stories from scratch.

3pm
Got excited as my surgeon came into the room and got me to sign my consent form, this is it I thought, then he turned and left( shit I should have followed him)Got a visitor from 2 girls who I know worked in the hospital. Caught up on some gossip, which I shall pass on once I can talk again )

As my friends left, the little ole one obviously forgot that she told me her life story so she started again. Then you never guess what she did, she only took out her flask, sandwiches and water in front of me, and continued telling me her story.

4pm

Not listening anymore, thinking of what water tastes like and what I would do for a cig, my dressing gown is only short and would not cover the gown, would I get away with it, would the nurses catch me shit what would I do.

4.30

Saved, the nurse came in and said theatre was ready for me, Hurah. Then she said we were walking to theatre.......... What........... in Causualty or Holby they never walk to theatre, there is always a trolley. This is not what i expected. So with my short dressing gown, over my theatre gown and not a bit of false tan on my legs so I popped to my destiny.

Go to theatre and a theatre nurse came out and asked me the same questions(ie did i have falsh teeth???, or crowns or bridges did i have nail polish etc). So she told me she would be back in a minute


5.00pm

Pain in my arse, I was seriously thinking of going home, but then I am called in. As I walk in there is a group of theatre staff all in a group they all suddenly stopped and looked at me, well I did say I was looking well in the gown. Hopped up on the table, and then the main person came into the gig. No not the surgeon but the anaestist. She found the vein, stuck the needle in and then put a oxygen mask over my face and said " going to sleep in 10, 9, 8( it was like an episode of Nip Tuck) after that I have no idea until I woke up in recovery.

never felt pain like it, it was like someone had shoved something in my mouth and grabbed my throat out oh they did. started spluttering and i squaked for some water, the gave me the tiniest drop of water i had ever felt
