    • EFFICIENT FINISHING BURST SECURES AAMI VICTORIA DERBY

      The Graeme Rogerson-trained Efficient is headed for the Melbourne Cup after producing a blistering finishing burst to fly past his rivals to win the Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m).

      Jockey Michael Rodd rode a well judged race, sitting well back in the field until making a perfectly timed move with 300 metres to go. The three-year-old gelding unleashed a swift turn of foot to run away from David Hayes’ Gorky Park and Anthony Cummings’ outsider Teranaba.

      An emotional Graeme Rogerson said he was “over the moon” the AAMI Victoria Derby for his long-term friend and owner Lloyd Williams and he acknowledged the work ethic of his jockey.

      “I always though he was going to be a good horse and he is certainly something special. I’m just so happy for owner Lloyd Williams. We are going to have a lot of fun with this horse

      “Michael’s (Rodd) ride today was brilliantly thought out. No other jockey in the world puts the effort in that he does and he is just one hell of a bloke.”

      Rogerson confirmed that Efficient will be paid up for the Emirates Melbourne Cup and is confident of their chances in Tuesday's race that stops a nation.

      Efficient’s career record now stands at five wins from six starts, with his only defeat coming in his maiden outing.
