o the main idea being to collect coins. Or even better bills. The busker must first and foremost Entertain!!!! I cant stress this enough folks. Too many buskers lack the musical ability to not irritate Joe Public who is your customer you are providing a service to.

Secondly if your out there in public. You gotta look good. That means clean-ish clothes. Good shoes. Not smelling like you woke up out of the gutter. If you have to , wash in a bathroom and change your clothes. Grubby buskers ruin it for the others and give buskers a bad name. They provide the stereotype that buskers are street people. And the grubbers are the ones who cause people to put sandwiches in my case. i dont need sandwiches I can buy those. So you got to represent. Imagine seeing your mom walk down the sidewalk and seeing you. You got to do this for your own dignity . And look half decent You cant have a desperate look n your eye. if your on dope Panhandle and leave the busking to the artists.


Mentally and emotionally its hard to be a busker because of the scornful looks from the public. In fact most of them. The few who are open minded enough to throw money in a case are the ones you are catering to. So this group is about Id say 20% 1 in 5 MIGHT throw a loonie if you meet their criteria. Don't judge them because they walk by without a regard for you. Maybe someone died. Maybe their daughter is on crack. maybe their are gonna lose their jobs. You dont know whats in the mind of a frowning person. They are sad for a reason. Thats why you have to sing happy songs for them They cant help and dont know any better to look through the world with a frown So you got to be above all that. And resist the urge to wanna give them shit for looking at you like your a low life. Dont judge them because they dont know any better You got to take the high road. After all you are free and beautiful and confident and talented and dont have to work to hard to survive. They on the other dont have that luxury so they resent you. get used to the dirty looks and dont take it personally.

In order to entertain them effectively you have to sing songs that the public likes. That means No Beatles or Neil Young. No one cares about the Dead dude. You gotta sing songs that the people know and love no matter what. Sweet Home Alabama will not get you a loonie. But say Bohemian Rhapsody will earn you twenty loonies in 5 minutes. So the songs I sing over and over again are as follows. They are chosen for their likability and almost universal love.
