Under 16s Win Away To Kilclief
Kilclief 4-7 v St Pauls 2-14
The Under 16s showed continued improvement in winning a tight game away from home - something that would not have happened a year ago.
The St Pauls boys left their minds in the dressing room as the home side raced to an uncontested 1-5 to no score lead after 10 minutes. Two quick well finished goals by Dominic O'Brien and Sean Toal brought St Pauls back into the match and with Peter Whelan starting to win fine ball at midfield St Pauls finished the half with a fine Aaron McGrattan point to turn with a 2-6 to 2-5 advantage.
St Pauls were for the most part on top in the second half without ever pulling away. There were some fine passages of play, Stephen Conlon was tireless in midfield and with a string of points from the Eastwood brothers , St Pauls built up a 4 point lead. A late Kilclief goal possibly flattered the home side although in fairness, if it hadn't been for some excellent saves throughout from a brilliant Conor McPeake , this was a game that St Pauls could so easily have lost.
The side deserve great credit for their spirit in winning an important away game and have now taken maximum points from their opening two league fixtures. It is vital that momentum is carried through to a full turnout for Sunday morning training 9.30am, McNamee Park.
St Pauls:- C McPeake,M McAllister,J Brennan,M Grimley,A McGrattan(0-1),C O'Reilly,A McAllister,P Whelan(0-2),S Conlon,F Eastwood(0-7),S Toal(1-1),R McCullough,S Johnston,D Eastwood(0-3),Dom O'Brien(1-0),R Collins
