Well it's been a busy period of time recently doing the amount of exams I have, and of the 18 units I did during semester one, 2 are classed as Credits (70% - 83%) and 16 are Distinctions (83% or above). Not bad considering as Well I go to a TAFE college that is part of the Cisco Networking Academy Program. Now all things considered, completing semester one of the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) curriculum was by no means an easy feat, let alone passing it. Now what the basis of what is called CCNA Semester 1 is something called Subnetting. *Sees all the blank and confused looks.*

Subnetting is the process and getting something known as a Network address (or ID), the Broadcast address and then splitting it up. For example, think of the telephone network as if it were a computer network. Now think of an Internet Protocol address (IP Address) is like a phone number. *Now to get to the part where it all goes a little pear shaped.* Ok say the telephone network address (or ID) is 9845 0000 and it's broadcast address is 9845 9999 is the broadcast address. Now this network is to go to the areas of say Liverpool, Moorebank, Chipping Norton, Wattle Grove and Holsworthy, we now have to split everything up in between the network address (or ID) and broadcast address, then each division is like a new area or subnetwork. Of course in the computer world it becomes more complex and involves a lot more work. This includes going from what computers know (on and off / 1 or 0 / binary) to what you and I know as decimal numbers (0123456789).

*Still sees blank looks*

At least I tried one way but luckily I have another quick way of describing it like this. Imagine having a shop and you need to divide it into smaller more manageable parts of the shop much like a supermarket or a department store is setup. That is what I have to do.

Anyway, apart from that now, I am resting up big time as latter this month I start all over again for another semester and ensuring I can enjoy myself how and while I can and get the opportunities, plus teaching myself how to use Packet Tracer (please don't get me started). Other than that it is the same thing each day and to be honest I can't ask for much more.
