Ngā hau E Whā originated from a simple concept of like-minded NZ Maori & Polynesian living in Japan. Ngā hau E Whā still maintains that concept but now bases the foundation upon upholding and maintaining Maori protocols, customs and performing arts by Maori who are living in Japan.
Ngā hau E Whā created the group with a desire to share and promote Maori culture with the people of Japan through the medium of kapa haka, but more than this the need to foster a whanau base for Maori living in Japan has become the main kaupapa.

Story by a Maori ex-JET in Japan, Stephanie Pohe, who was also involved in kapa haka while in Japan.

Chur whanau! Loved the stint on Marae. Made me miss the good times in Tokz!! Can't wait to come back and catch up with you all. Dunno when I can squeeze it in but I'm trying... Nesian Mystik just released a compilation of BOTH Polysaturated & Freshmen as one album entitled "NESIAN MYSTIK" in JAPAN!!!!!!!! It entered the Radio Charts @ No.53 and is now sitting @ No.16!!!! I know you guys will support the bros so keep an eye out for that one. And them touring or making appearances over there to promote it. Enjoy the hanami, I really, REALLY miss Japan at this time of year.
