Derby County 0-2 ROVERS
Doncaster Rovers gave their travelling supporters a superb early Christmas present by winning for the second time at Pride Park, a win that takes Rovers up to within a mind-boggling four points of the play-off places. The prolific Billy Sharp scored - nothing new there, then - for a remarkable sixth game in a row, to give Rovers an early lead, and after then, Derby huffed and puffed, but they just could not blow the Rovers house down. The second half, particularly, was a 'backs to the wall' display by Rovers; despite the possession, Derby failed to force Rovers keeper Neil Sullivan into a save in the entire match. A superb afternoon for Rovers was capped in added time when Rovers broke away for James Coppinger to score his first goal of the campaign and send the Rovers fans into raptures.
So, Rovers go into the Christmas in 11th place - dare we dream of higher things?

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll was full of praise for Rovers striker Billy Sharp after he plundered his sixth goal in successive games yesterday afternoon at Derby County. The downside for Rovers is that the more goals he scores, the more chances there are that Sheffield United will receive a bid for Sharp in the January transfer window. O'Driscoll reminded us: "He's here until the end of the season unless Sheffield United get an offer to sell him they accept and Billy decides he wants to move. I would love to make it a permanent move but any bid I put in would have to have a couple of noughts added on to get it accepted. But you have got to be pragmatic about it. It's a win-win situation, Billy has got his career back on track and he's scoring goals for us. If it works out for Billy I will be delighted and we will send him on his way and say thanks for the memories."
In contrast Derby boss Nigel Clough slammed the performance of his side yesterday. He said: "I don't know if it's complacency, an air of arrogance or it might be we are not good enough. Perhaps it's a combination of everything. We've got into old habits again and that's the reason Derby have not been out of the bottom half of the table in two-and-a-half years."
"Our first 45 minutes was extremely disappointing, on the back of our last four performances and results. When you put such a poor one in, and give a goal away as we did, it makes it extremely difficult to get anything out of the game. There's no excuse for not doing the basic things right. That is the reason we didn't win the game."
