Me, Myself, and I
Amy Raumati aka Lady Sheeq is one of New Zealand's premier female MC and Hiphop personality. With a multi-faceted career that includes hosting Radio and TV shows, performing on stage as an MC, and an award winning B-Girl, it's no surprise Lady Sheeq's solidified her claim to the throne of Queen of local Hiphop.

Lady Sheeq has performed locally and internationally on the heels of her break-thru debut single 'Don't Stop' and her recently released sophomore release 'Becos Of Love' enlisting the soulful talents of Rach Fraser. Both singles highlight Lady Sheeq's incomparable ability to express emotion and drive into her work, while delving deep into the mechanics of what makes Lady Sheeq, Lady Sheeq.

With 8 years of solid ground work within the local Hiphop community, the build up to Lady Sheeq's debut E.P slated for mid 2011 has been well deserved and her fans will not be disappointed.

    REINTRODUCING LADY SHEEQ

Lady Sheeq has been around in Aotearoa’s hip hop community for nearly a decade. Starting out as a b-girl her breaking skills took this soul sista around the world. But it is now Aotearoa’s urban scene where her heart is at and who she is showing her love to..

Representing Aotearoa at Battle Of The Year in Germany in 2004/05 and at the Australasian B-Boys Championships in Sydney in 2005 with her crew Disruptiv, Sheeq grew such a love for the scene that she was also one of the creative directors of the New Zealand b-boy event Battle Cry in 2005.
Multi-talented Sheeq also set up New Zealand’s first all female MC tour Bella Qween in 2008 and recently worked with South Auckland youth on a Street Dreams album.

Now Sheeq is back in the spotlight as an artist reintroducing herself as an MC. Inspired by Aotearoa’s talent she takes her relationship with hip hop to the next level. Her first single 'Don’t Stop' featuring Dei Hamo dropped in December 2009.

Sheeq is currently working on her EP that will be released next year and has just released her single 'Becos of Love'. With Lady Sheeq we can not only look forward to a unique, refreshing style and flow of homegrown New Zealand Hip Hop, but also to a strong, beautiful, and inspiring role model representing the soul of Aotearoa’s hip hop to the fullest.

Coming from b-girling was it a natural development for you to explore a further element of hip hop as an artist and to express yourself as an MC?

I think it was a natural progression. I‘ve spent five years building my foundation with b-girling here in Aotearoa and I had the blessing of travelling internationally with my dancing which was huge for me and it really opened my eyes to the level in which I could take my artistry. I got to the point where I had made a lot of connections through sponsors and built relationships with influential people within this culture and I felt it was time for me to step back and to give back to the b-boy community. To do that I started my own b-boy events which I sacrificed my own dancing for because when you are organising you can’t battle in or enter your own events. I really felt it was my duty to do what I could to help the b-boy community grow.

I also got to a point where something that I loved so much - this passion for dance, became something that I began to dislike because of the mentality of the New Zealand scene. I felt the work, the passion and everything that I put into it, this love for dance, eventually meant I was getting nothing back. If anything, I was getting judged, there was a lot of hatred and jealousy which was stemming from that and I got to a point where I rebelled against it.

So I removed myself completely from the b-boy community as it was time for me to grow and move on and I started promoting club gigs. Boogie Hood, Mr Sicc and a lot of underground cats. The truth a lot of underground artists speak through their music inspired me and from there I had a real love for stage performance and dynamics of live performances. I really wanted to bring together a show of all elements. Dance, and b-girling, and popping, soul music, and MC-ing in which I created the vision behind Bella Qween, which was New Zealand’s very first all female hip hop tour.

That was a major journey for me and one which gave birth to my music. We did a ten city tour with ten amazing artists from all walks of life that really inspired me. It made me realise this is where I want to take my hip hop and this is a point in life where I am ready to speak and to utilise my voice through music. So yeah now I’m writing my EP.

What can we expect from your EP?

Very, soulful, conscious hip hop. I’m definitely coming on a conscious tip, one of positivity, one of love, and one of inspiration. I think that is my path in which my music goes. It’s very spiritual music, I really want to captivate the audience.

    I’m really
