  • pasta fazool

I have made a version of fazool...i don't claim it to be completely the same as my mom's..(nana, rubber nana, grandma, mudd, aunt jean, etc), but it is pretty close.
*bottle of red wine (grape juice for the reformed)
*1 juice glass (for the wine you idiot)
    *fill glass-drink
*2 lbs Jack Rabbit brand kidney beans
*1 lb of the fattiest, aorta cloggin, artery burstin bacon
*2 large yellow or sweet onions
*parsley, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, garlic powder

*soak beans overnight if possible, drain and rinse
*Fill 4 qt aluminum pot with water, leave about 2 inches from top.
    *fill glass-drink
*Add beans and about 3tb of each spice except oregano...2tb oregano.
*mix contents, lay bacon across top of mixture.
    *fill glass-drink
*heat on medium for 3-4 hours...simmer is what you want. add water to maintain liquid as it boils down. when beans are pretty tender turn heat to low
*saute onions in about 2tb EV olive oil till clarified.
**this is a two-drink operation ya stupid bastard
*mix onions into beans and serve immediately over hot Ronzoni elbow macaroni.

*proper way to eat is to fill bowl, light and smoke...oh wait...wrong bowl....fill bowl, then using your mouli (u still have it don't you) grate hard romamo, add olive oil and then garlic powder...mix, eat till your gills are bleeding and then have one more bowl. always served with a loaf of crusty italian bread.

try it and let me know how it turns out.

It seems most of the best recipes in the family were never written down....mama's soup, my dads suffriet and bread pudding, my mothers fazool...maybe that is part of the tradition...to try to remember and emulate....and pass it down that way.....any other "famous" recipes out there in the family??
