Just a weather update in case the last message was a bit negative... the rain and wind has backed off and the weather is bright and sunny. Things are looking up again. Cheers!

Heyya! 36 degrees! It has been solidly raining here for the last four weeks, not to mention the howling wind and the temperature getting colder every day. Most mornings I hitch into sligo from strandhill at 6:30am, that is like 5am would be in aus, since noone gets up here until it gets light at 8:30. Its been desperate (as they say here). Usually only about three cars go past but I've always got a lift so far. But what am I complaining about early starts to you for? You've been doing them for years!! Anyway the cold misery outside makes the pubs warmer, the hot whiskeys and irish whiskeys taste better and makes everyone keen for some craic. Last week we played soccer in sleet and hail Sounds like Cammille would have been cool. Its a great shame about poetry club being inactive, I might just take a minutes silence to reflect on that sad loss... Don't forget to let me know if anything big happens! Take care

Top o tmorrning to ye!! (The bus driver said that once, made my day, but thats the only time I've heard it used not in imitation of Brad Pitt's travler voice in Snatch) The more customary greeting here is to belt out an 'ARe ya WELL? Terrible day ISntit? Are yNot COLd? Do ytink tis rains ere t'staay?' (well going on the last four thousand years...) I'd have to say that I'm more the Manni figure in the Booknest, but I am always trying to introduce some shelving chaos, red wine and contempt for customers though ... so maybe one day Looking forward to summer? The cold here is just starting kick in, but it is not unbearable yet last week the lawn frosted over a few times. Hows things at the coffee shop? Still livin with the girls? Much fun about? Any more poetry nights? Any facts about our social circle back home that I should be made aware of?

We are more politely derided as "trav'lers" or "itinerants" thankyou very much, and its not a lie cause I explain that it is only speculation, which serves well enough as proven fact in irish pubs. I have haven't seen 'the gate' yet - is that one in strand hill? I've been to the Strand and the dunes in strandhill - Galway is a fine place - I don't spose you went to the quays there? Thats my personal favorite as far as pubs go.

I've found a way to fit in with the irish. Everyone says that Ward is a very irish name, apparently Wards over here are usually trailer trash types (they have there own derogatry titles), so my story is that I must descend from Irish convicts sent to Australia for something like stealing off the Brits... and there its is ... acceptance. The british aspects of my ancestry (most if not all of it) is better kept on the down low.
