  • The Story of Miss Drogheda

Miss Drogheda was the brainchild of Drogheda Youth Focus, led by Miss Ruth Martin in 2001 and was co-produced by Ms Sheila Martin. Drogheda Youth Focus saw Miss Drogheda as an opportunity to knit the local community together and to have the youth of Drogheda become actively involved in the town.
The sell out event proved to be a huge success, which gained the support of all local businesses and traders in Drogheda.

The event was judged by Mr Des Grant, Drogheda Leader, Ms Ria Meegan, Madison Hair and Beauty, Mr Rodney Devine, Devine Hair Salon, Dundalk, Ms Angela McQuaid, Dundalk Argus, Miss Rachel Lavin, Student Rep and a representative from Dunnes Stores.

Industria Clothing, sponsored the entire event and also supplied the contestants with their attire for the night. Sean Freeman, Drogheda supplied the tuxedos for the escorts.

Miss Drogheda was presented by Mr Paul Maguire, currently a reporter with RTE.

Entertainment was provided courtesy of Paddy O’Shea.

Ms Sheila Martin, trained and mentored the contestants prior to the event.

Donna Bradley, from Clogherhead was crowned Miss Drogheda 2001 and she has now gone on to have her own dance school.

    -------------------------------

Miss Drogheda 2002, hosted by Daire Nelson from LMFM radio, followed suit and once again turned out to be immensely successful. Again we had outstanding support from all of our local industries.

2002 was judged by Mr Des Grant, Drogheda Leader, Ms Caroline Kavanagh, Drogheda Independent, Alderman Michael O’Dowd, Drogheda Borough Council, Ms Irene Sands, Youth Representative, Mr Vinnie O’Dowd, Captain U19 Irish Rugby Team, Ms Rachel Lavin, Student Rep.

Again the girls were tutored by Ms Sheila Martin.

Entertainment was provided by South Paw.

In 2002, Tracey Finlay was the lucky girl, who gained the title of Miss Drogheda 2002.
