- Me, Myself, and I
- Hi everyone. My name is Takeshi Kitano. I am a Japanese actor/director. I am also the creator of the Japanese television show "Takeshi's Castle" which now although finished regulary airs on Challenge TV. When directing films, I go under the alias "Beat" Takeshi. After I left school in Adachi I studyed engineering for four years at Meiji University but got thrown out for "bad behavior." I learned about the stand-up comedy buisness while working as elevator operator in a nightclub from Senzaboro Fukami. When a performer fell ill, I replaced him and I have been in the entertainment buisness ever since. In the 70s I formed a comic duo with my good friend Kiyoshi Kaneko under the name "Two Beat." Our duo later disintegrated and in 1989 I was cast as the lead in Violent Cop, which I was also assigned to direct when Kiji Fukasaku fell ill. I have directed and starred in over 20 more films, icluding Hana-Bi and Battle Royale. I have also written books on poetry and fiction and enjoy painting

Guardian
The Film Magazine The Guardian has recently voted myself as one of the top 40 most important film-makers of this era. I am honoured to be considered this good a director, but I will continue to strive and improve my film's, being the perfectionist that I am, and will hopefully be even higher up on the list the next time The Guardian even consider's to do a list.0 Comments 361 weeks
