About Me

Me, Myself, and I
The band was first formed on a heady evening in the summer of 2004 in a small suburban restaurant over minestrone soup. Lauren Bensted was a lonely guitarist/pianist, whose vague dabble in fame had been touring the Pinner scene with her act "A piano, a guitar, and me". To her surprise, Pinner just wasn't quite ready for it. Hannah Alderton was a solitary singer who felt her mellow vocal hues were lost on the Associated Board adjudicators. Musically speaking. From jazz jamming sessions in the back sheds of pubs in Croxley Green with arthritic old jazz connaisseurs, to theatre lounges entertaining the ageing masses of Rickmansworth, to weddings, to barmitzvahs, to restaurants, to being chased by the boys in blue for busking in Covent Garden, to providing dinner jazz at the restaurant of a "ready steady cook" chef, to north london bars, to west london pubs, Sophie Can't Fly has seen it all. Apart from creperies. They'd really like to do that.
