The fascists, having scored that victory, now have the humble Mars bar in their sights, and the manufacturers are seeking to pre-empt them by putting a calorie count on the wrapper. Can there be any point to this? Has a single person ever stopped smoking because of the increasingly terrifying warnings printed on fag packets? Why should the calorie count stop at Mars bars, indeed?

If you eat too much of anything, even of so-called health foods, they can be bad for you. At a time when the Girl Guides are now to be instructed, at the age of 10, about sex and drugs, whatever is the Government hoping to achieve by raising to 18 the age at which you can buy cigarettes? How long will it be before you have to be 21 to buy a Mars bar, or eat in a Little Chef?"
