About Me

Me, Myself, and I
Scoil Uí Chonaill GAA club was founded in 1950 by Rev. Brother Scully. The Club was initially established to maintain links with past pupils of O'Connell's Schools who had played for various school teams and to enable continued involvement by these players in hurling and football. The Club started with just a minor and juvenile section competing in league and championship. Even at this early stage the Club achieved success, winning both the juvenile hurling and football leagues and the juvenile football championship. Those early years produced many quality players that competed regularly against the stars of very successful Dublin teams

Pitches:

Pitch 22, St. Anne's is on Sybil Hill (continuation of Vernon Avenue towards Howth Rd.). From Alfie Byrne Road, the Vernon Avenue junction with the Clontarf Road (coast road from City to Howth) is about 800 metres further past the Club (see above) -- Thunder's Bakery is on the corner. Continue up Vernon Avenue through 1, 2, 3, 4 sets of traffic lights. At the next set of traffic lights where Sybil Hill meets Vernon Avenue you will see a Health Board Clinic (on right, if going up the hill). The entrance to the pitch is just up the hill from that.

Pitch 13, St. Anne's is on Watermill Rd. (the complete opposite side of the park from Pitch 22 - St. Anne's is bigger than Marlay Park so that's quite a distance!). From Alfie Byrne Road, continue about 4 or 5 kilometres on the coast road towards Howth. This will take you past The Dollymount House Pub and eventually you will be driving with St. Anne's Park on your left. When you reach the crossroads junction that would take y

  • Why GAA is better then soccer!

25 REASONS WHY GAA IS BETTER THAN SOCCER

    1) The GAA player who played in front of 80,000 at the weekend will be teaching your children, selling you meat or fixing your drains on Monday morning. The soccer player who plays in front of 80,000 will be moaning about playing too many games and will be trying to sell you his personalised brand of leisure wear

    2) GAA nicknames are better (The Bull, The Bomber,The Rock, etc.) . Soccer players just add a Y to their surnames

    3) Dublin vs Meath is a real derby. What does Utd. Vs City mean to Ronaldo or Sibierski

    4) How many soccer players does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer eleven. One to stick it in and ten to surround and kiss him after he does it

    5) Soccer players go to the papers after a game. GAA players go to the pub

    6) John Terry would run a mile if he came up against Francie Bellew

    7) GAA teams are numbered 1-15. A soccer team reads like the lottery results

    8) All soccer players wear shin pads. Some hurlers wear helmets

    9) Television runs soccer. Schoolteachers run the GAA

    10) The GAA is about where you're from. Soccer is about who you like

    11) No segregation at GAA games

    12) No soccer team has a nickname quite as lovely as the Fighting Cocks of Carlow

    13) Bubble perms never made it to Croke Park

    14) A scoreless draw in the GAA would be quite a novelty

    15) The GAA may not appreciate its women as much as it should but at least we all know who Cora Stanunton is. The most famous woman in English soccer is Posh Spice

    16) Under age players get to be part of the biggest days in hurling and football at half-time in the All-Ireland.

    17) Micheal O'Murchearaigh.

    18) If a GAA player ever jumped at a spectator like Eric Cantona did the rest of his team would join in. So would the rest of the crowd.

19)Vinnie Jones grabbed Gascoignes testicles. Paudie O'Se decked Joe McNally during the National Anthem. McNally learnt his lesson.Gascoigne just got worse.

    20) The GAA season always leaves you wanting more. The soccer season leaves soccer people demanding less. "Fewer games please"

    21) Old soccer players get testimonials, Old GAA players just slip down to junior.

    22) Rural villages = A Church, A Post-office, a Pub and a GAA pitch.

    23) Pints after the match with the lad you knocked seven lumps of shite out of in the game.

    24)Croke park on a Summer's Day.

25)Roman Abramovich can buy the League. You can't buy Sam

  • The Leinster Final

    DUBLIN 1-15 OFFALY 0-9

For the first time in 11 years a Leinster county defended their provincial crown as the Dubs put together back-to-back Delaney Cups before 81,754 fans at headquarters on Sunday afternoon.

Jason Sherlock blasted home the decisive goal in the 67th minute as Dublin secured their 46th provincial title.

Dublin hit the turbos in the second half and six points without reply between the 40th and 52nd minutes put them firmly into the driving seat.

The dismissal of Alan McNamee in the 53rd minute, for a second yellow card offence, aided Dublin's cause as they made their extra stamina, pace and numbers count over the remainder of the game.

The Dubs next outing is on Saturday, August 12 when they face Galway or Westmeath in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

That game is scheduled as a Croke Park double-header along with Mayo v Offaly/Laois and tickets will be at a premium with the Dubs set to get 20,000 tickets.

The bookies have installed Dublin as favourites to lift the Sam Maguire but there is still room for improvement on yesterday's display.

However, Dublin didn't look in trouble once the forwards began to combine with purpose in the second half while Ciaran Whelan and Shane Ryan provided the platform at midfield.

    SCORERS - Dublin: T Quinn 0-7 (0-4f), A Brogan 0-4, J Sherlock 1-1, C Keaney 0-3 (0-1f). Offaly: N McNamee 0-4 (0-1f), T Deehan, C McManus (0-1f, 0-1 '45') 0-2,A McNamee 0-1.

Subs: S Connell for Cosgrove (57), D O'Callaghan for Lally (62), D Magee for Quinn (68) , C Moran for Goggins (70), S O'Shaughnessy for Griffin (71).
    OFFALY - P Kelly; P McConway, S Sullivan, N Grennan; G Rafferty, S Brady, K Slattery; C McManus, A McNamee; D Hunt, P Kellaghan, N Coughlan; T Deehan, J Reynolds, N McNamee. Subs: C Daly for
