Noir Not condensed into ten statements...
A brief history of the band amongst other things....
The band began in late Autumn 2005, in the head of drummer, Seán Englishby. Seán wanted to create a band that would play music a cut above standard rock. By mixing various elements of the music he loved, he wanted to create a Funk band with a difference.
Recruiting began. Seán first asked bassist Stephen Vernon Sheehy for his help in creating this band. A fellow funk lover, Stephen accepted the opportunity. With a solid rhythm section the band now needed a vocalist and guitarist.
Dermot(Bam) O Connor was asked would he be willing to join. Though at the time he was mainly a metal guitarist he knew that he and Stephen played well together as they were in many previous bands together, he decided to jam with Seán and see how things sounded.
The three met one day in Seáns house. They began to jam in blues, funk and jazz
styles. The collective inspirations of each member began to coincide, producing a unique sound, laced with grooves. A chemistry was instantly recognisable. 3 musicians with different musical tastes joined and a unique funk fusion was heard in the making.
The band now became more serious as the Winter closed in. They jammed and practiced cover songs every weekend, while also sharing ideas for originals. The bands first real original song was an old rock/traditional fusion that Bam recorded years previous. The simple song structure soon evloved into somethign more spectacular. It was the steady but rapid pace of the drums, and the bass and guitar harmonies which made this song evolve. This song is today still played by the band and is played in the Jazz format with improvs by each band member.
After a small gig at a friends party on New Years Eve the band was crying out for a vocalist. Someone with a good vocal range and also confidence was needed... soon Johnny Cosgrove was added to the ranks. He was the perfect addition to the band. Noir now began writing more songs. Each member of the band was extrememly happy with the overall sound.
After many gigs in the local area Noir are still writing and gigging. Performing original compositions and those all important crowd pleasing covers, the band's popularity is continuously growing.
The bands sound today is still based on the groove, but the elements of funk and prog rock have come to the fore alot more. The songs riffs are infectious
but intricate, overall giving a more enjoyable and original sound.
Noir are nearly ready to go into the studio to record their first demo ep. Finishing touches are being applyed to each song and hopefully soon we will have 4 songs posted on our page.
Until then,
Au Revoir,
Noir.35 Comments 352 weeks
