- In 1998, Conor Hughes owner of a music shop in Blackrock travelled to Romania to see the state-run orphanages. Having seen the conditions first hand and on meeting up with Pauline Walsh - an Irish volunteer there, Conor decided to establish Crosscause to raise money to build a home to rescue the most severe cases.
All of our kids were abandoned, and having special needs will require care for the remainder of their life. Crosscause will fund this. Of the four kids taken out last year in wheelchairs, 3 can now walk unaided. We also ensure they receive speech therapy, physio and music therapy. The Irish volunteers take them on regular trips in the countryside and they genuinely have a happy life in Casa Bridget. The project has been such a success that we intend to double the size of the home with a new wing to be built by volunteers in April and May, 2004.
