      I sat in my cell. The bare concrete the only decoration, the chips in the wall the only variation in texture. I sat as always, waiting. Waiting for what I didn’t know, but I still sat and waited, listening to life continuing around me, outside this slice of hell.

      I had been imprisoned for political reasons rather than any real offences. I had been convicted of murder and terrorism, by a completely conservative jury, after DMan, the leader of a notorious terrorist cell had mentioned me as one of the other members of his cell, to get his friends of the hook. I had a reputation as a strong liberal, unafraid of speaking out against the conservative government. So I was here, with all afternoon to think, to reflect if anything else I had done would have warranted imprisonment. Nothing did.

      So I stared at the door, the clanging door that isolated me from the world. It seemed that the first day I had been shut in it had cut off all my senses, except the occasional glimpse of sound. Shouts of the wardens, the ever-present hum of traffic, the howl of sirens, and screams of people caught in dark alleys at night.

      My soul felt like it had been caught in a dark alley at night with my conscience there, beating it senseless. Still I have not screamed, I begin my fightback. Everyone deserves a second chance, that’s my theory. I restrain my conscience; remind myself of who I am. Clear my mind of doubts about myself, remind myself that I am not as cruel or callous as I normally find myself believing.

      I often think like this, after reflecting on my life, and wondering who I am. I ask if I get my second chance. The prime minister has gone to war; thousands have died as his reasons for the war were proved wrong, one by one. He’s got his second chance, why don’t I get mine? Big businesses have corrupt managers, and politicians filter money into their bank accounts. They get second chances, why not me. “Why lord have you forsaken me?” to quote scripture

      The guard’s footsteps echoed outside. Strange, it was only half an hour since he had been to check on our cells. Just to check were not being too rowdy. They don’t really need to check if anyone has escaped, no one can, there are too many guards and the walls are too high.

      The footsteps echoed closer. They stopped outside my cell, and I heard the lock click open. The door swung open, I remained stretched out on my bed, not wanting to appear overly curious. I composed myself as the guard appeared in the doorway. I put on a nonchalant air, though my heart was nearly bursting.

      "Come on," said the guard.
      "Ok," I replied as I pulled myself upright, slowly.
      "Hurry up" snapped the guard
      "Chill" I thought, but didn’t voice my opinion, because Sharkface is notorious for giving out black eyes for no reason. I got up and followed him down the corridor, up the stairs, painted concrete, the paint badly chipped, past the mess hall, up the second flight of stairs to the First warden’s office.

      "Sit down" suggested the warden, with his back to me
      I said nothing, waiting to here what he was going to say
      He spoke in a short, formal, emotionless tone "You are to be released; your lawyer has new, concrete evidence that you were not involved in terrorism, and the charges against you have been dropped following the appeal of the case yesterday. Therefore I have received orders to release you today"
      "Thank you"
      "I think this is a good step forward, I think everyone deserves a second chance." He held out his hand.
      I shook it. "So do I" was all I said.

      I walked down the stairs and along the corridor, for the last time. The tall gates swung open before me, and as the wind touched my face for the first time in I don’t know how long I knew I was free.

      I have my second chance. Everyone deserves a second chance, remember that, always

      that was fabous detal! ha my summer is goin great At d start of the summer i was sailin 4 2 days but i broke my wrist on d 2nd evenin play football (honestly?!)so i cudnt sail .. i jst became a sort of assistant instructor which ws pretty cool. den in July i went 2 Germany wit scouts 4 2 weeks campin.We went 2 theme prks nd dere was a local pool which we went 2 everyday wit high dive platforms so it was gr8! den i started sailin again in mid august which was lots of fun .had a near death experience tho! went out on a bright sunday wit my m8 hu of corse had neva been on a boat b4 nd dere was a storm .we had 2 b toed in by a yacht. My m8 had hypothermia nd i had a huge scratch goin dwn my neck 2 my stomache nd a black nd blue leg. fun for all! ha now im headin 2 mayo 4 sum surf wit my american pal. my gran died 2 days ago so we r goin early 2 d funeral. i bet ur gona get gr8 results so dnt worry! Vietnam sounds amazing ( with a lot of road kill :P ) gUd luck wit D skiin Orla XXX
