Australia's win seals big pay-day for SA!!

Australia's victory over New Zealand in the fourth one-day international (ODI) in Adelaide on Tuesday means that South Africa will be at the top of the ICC ODI Championship table on the cut-off date of April 1 -- and will therefore pocket $175 000.

Prior to Tuesday's match between New Zealand and Australia in Adelaide, only the Black Caps could possibly have overtaken the Proteas on the table before 1 April. But defeat meant even if Daniel Vettori's men were to win the remaining ODI in this series and then beat India 5-0 next month, they would still fall short of South Africa's current rating of 125.

On the current schedule of ODIs, no other side can match South Africa and with the Proteas themselves not playing any ODIs before 1 April, they will not be budging from the rating they enjoy today.

Each year, the side that leads the listing on 1 April becomes $175 000 richer while the runner-up collects $75 000. The ICC ODI Championship shield will be presented to Cricket South Africa at a ceremony in late March.

Meanwhile, Australia have consolidated their position in second place on the ladder following their six-wicket victory in Adelaide, while New Zealand stay in fourth place, some six ratings points behind India, who are in third spot.

But either New Zealand or India could finish ahead of Australia depending first of all on the result of the final ODI of the current series in Brisbane and then on the outcome of the five matches between New Zealand and India in March. If Australia win on Friday, they will have sewn up the runners-up cheque.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola said South Africa would be aiming to achieve the 'double' during Australia's tour of South Africa.

"This is a fantastic achievement by Graeme Smith and the Proteas, and all eyes are now focused on beating Australia in the upcoming Castle tests here to take the top spot in test cricket as well", said Majola.

"This would be an awesome start to the beginning of this season, coming on top of the Proteas recording their best ever season in 2008."

Many Thanks Loveee,
Thee South African Cricket Team!
