Gibbs won't be sidelined

Herschelle Gibbs is still part of South Africa?s plans for the looming tour of Australia.
This is in spite of his escapades last week in a hotel in Sandton, which led to him being axed from the one-day side for the series against Bangladesh and being sent home to Cape Town.

Team manager Dr Mohammad Moosajee said on Saturday Gibbs would be strongly considered for the tour to Australia.

Moosajee will meet in Cape Town this week with all the important roleplayers in Gibbs?s life and work out an action plan for his rehabilitation.

He could not say for certain on Saturday when Gibbs would report to a clinic for rehabilitation from alcohol addiction.

?We?ll sort that out in the next few days. We?ll call his family and agent together and talk about the direction his life will take now,? said Moosajee.

?The experts that will be involved with his rehabilitation when he is booked into a clinic will also have an input.

?I can?t say how long he will spend at the clinic. It depends how favourably he reacts to treatment. It can be anything from a month to two months.?

He emphasised that the latest setback in Gibbs?s controversial career would not be held against him with an eye to the tour of Australia.

Gibbs would in any event only be considered for the Twenty20 and one-day series and that only starts in the middle of January.

Moosajee said on Saturday Gibbs was initially very disappointed when he heard he would be withdrawn from the squad for the one-day series against Bangladesh and that he would be sent home.

?Herschelle realises now that he needs help and what has to be done will be in his best interests. We all need to get together to work out a plan of action,? he said.

Moosajee also confirmed that Gibbs did not break the team curfew of 23:00.

It is believed Gibbs started drinking at 14:00 in the team hotel in Sandton and was heavily under the influence of alcohol when he was taken to his room at 22:00 by assistant coach Vincent Barnes.

Gibbs apparently insulted other people in the bar and also threatened to get physical.

Hotel staff had to phone Barnes to fetch Gibbs from the bar and take him to his room

Many Thanks Lovee,
The south african cricket team!
