The Australia Tour !247 weeks ago

Jacques Kallis talking about the Tour against Australia

The Proteas have their best chance in years to beat Australia in a cricket test series says veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis.
The Australians seem to be vulnerable after losing some of their stalwarts, Kallis said on Tuesday, shortly after India had beaten Ricky Ponting?s team by 320 runs.

South Africa will start their international season by playing Kenya and Bangladesh later this month before taking on the Aussies away and at home.

Kallis and his mates are aware that the Proteas, under five captains, have not beaten Australia in eight test series since South Africa?s readmission to the international arena.

Proteas captain Graeme Smith said in Johannesburg on Monday the South Africans were facing their most important season yet.

Speaking at the launch of the Mutual & Federal Cricket Annual, Smith said his team had shown that they had a good and realistic chance of turning the tables.

RECIPROCAL TOUR

Australia have not lost a series against South Africa since 1993/?94 and have won the six most recent series between the two countries.

Now they are scheduled to play Smith?s side in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney in December and January before undertaking a reciprocal tour.

Kallis, who will be on his fourth tour Down Under, believes any SA team will always be under pressure to beat the Aussies on their own grounds.

People who believe Australia are not as formidable as they used to be, have a point, but they are by no means a weak team.

?They may be struggling a little in India, where they are playing in difficult conditions,? the experienced Kallis said.

Looking ahead to the Proteas tour, he added, ?They?ll be at home, in conditions they know well and where they have not been beaten in years. It won?t be easy.?

If the Proteas get their act together and play to their ability, they have a chance, he believes.

?Australia are probably at their most vulnerable yet. It may be the best chance that we have had. But everything will have to go right for us to win.

?To beat them over there, everything must go right, such as winning the toss and performing better than they do at crucial stages.?
