Australia part 4 and NZ part 19/18/07

Well Blog,

I was going to write about my travels in OZ and NZ but they now pale in comparison with France 0 Scotland 1. Simply the best result EVER for a Scottish National side. McFadden is a legend and will always be one joining the likes of Archie Gemmill, Kenny Dalgliesh, Joe Jordan, Ally McCoist, Dennis Law, Jim Baxter, Jim Leighton and Gary Caldwell. We are now in the driving seat for qualification and everyone suddenly gets nervous, why? Because we could actually do this! Before the France away game no-one seriously thought we would qualify despite showing real fight and bringing pride back to the nation. Lets not count our chickens though. Seven points and we are there. Must win games against the Ukraine and Georgia and then the "mother of all battles" at Hampden when Italy come a calling. Hope your set for the mother of all parties at your flat Toni.

Imagine actually signing Doe a Deer in Austria at a finals tournament. A week on and still totally buzzing. Lets all hope and pray we can do this, we deserve it.

Australia Part 38/2/07

Well Blog,

Another month has past by and hasn't it flown in. In Melbourne just now and feeling the chill although probably still as warm as back home! Less than 4 weeks left in Oz and then off to NZ.

Highlights this month have to be climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and going to Neighbours night last Monday. Other cool activities include sledging in the Snowy Mountains (yes it does snow in Oz), Zorbing and visiting Nimbin.

Everyone should climb the Harbour Bridge, a bit expensive but a good laugh and amazing views from the top of the coat hanger. Its not like everyone has climbed it (although over 1.5million have). Sledging was minted felt like a big kid again and met a great bunch on the peple on the bus down. Went on a mountain road where we didn't meet another car for 100km.

Reached Melbourne and the main thing to do here is visit. Neighbours night. Yes it was brilliant. Fletch is a legend and I'm now upto date on the latest goss from Ramsey street.

Upcoming events include, the Ramsey street tour, a visit to Philip Island for the penguin parade, the great ocean road and an adventure thru the desert to Ayres rock.

PS Fletch's favourite band is the Kaiser Chiefs.

Australia Part 27/2/07

G'day Blog

Where did I last leave you? Somewhere south of Cairns I think.

Since then its been a lot of laughs and even more drunken shenanigans. Went to Magnetic Island which was very nice when it wasn't raining, with the backbackers right on the beach. Only negative about that was having to go thru Townsville to get there. The best way to describe Townsville is by comparing it to Grangemouth, no insult intended... well maybe a little. It was just so industrial.

Then onto Airlie beach, the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. This has to be one of my favourite places in Oz so far even though it was only one street! I think a week here though was beginning to be a bit of overkill. The Whitsundays sailing though was great, white sands of Whitehaven, some proper sailing, acting as pirates and over taking a bar in the middle of nowhere, goon snorkelling, good food and enough drink to sink a battleship.

Fraser Island followed on and had a great time here on the self guided 4x4 adventure from Rainbow beach. Met some great people like the five girls from Ireland, you know who you are, and Jaygo and Tori. Sadly the Dutch and Germans did nothing to improve continental relations. Saw whales from Indian head, the amazing Lake MacKenzie and the cool Lake Wabby, which included streaking from 4 local guys the Dingos nearly got hold of their snags!

Noosa was one big piss up and a trip Australia Zoo. Had a party on the beach one night after being evicted from the hostel for making too much noise with our drinking games. And now I am in Brisbane detoxing... until tomorrow at least and Surfers Paradise.

Australia Part 16/2/07

Dear Blog,

It has been a while since we talked. Now in Sunny... no sorry rainy Australia. Arrived in Brisbane to glorious sunshine and then it started going down hill by becoming overcast and then torrential rain when I moved upto Cairns.

On the positive side this country is one of the most laid back I have ever visited. Swarms of backpackers fill the streets up here. Brisbane seems like a nice place to live but Cairns is the place to party. Every night is a party up there and with free drink its always going to be a good night.

Have also visited the Great Barrier Reef thankfully on a nice day and saw some amazing stuff and have also spent a couple nights out in the rainforest seeing snakes, crocs and spiders out in the wild, at night.

Highlight though was swimming under the waterfall where peter Andre filmed Mysterious Girl. Priceless.

Fed Kangaroos and wrestled a croc and that about sums up the first 3 weeks of Oz.

China Part 25/11/07

Hi Blog,

Its now the end of the adventure in Red China. Booooo!

Last day in Hong Kong, flying to Brisbane tonight.
Yangshuo was the last port of call in the blog so might as well start there.
Its a backpackers mecca. Everyone speaks english, very unusual for China. Stayed at Fawlty towers hotel but sadly Basil was not on duty. In Yangshuo went on a boat 'cruise' down the river Li. Cruise is perhaps not the right word, dodging goverment boats and waiting around until nearly sunset on a small barge would be a better description. At the scenery was beautiful.

Moved from Fawlty towers to the outside inn on the outskirts of town. Went to cooking school and I'm and expert with a wok. I'll cook dumplings if anyone doesn't believe me. Then went on a bike tour of the area with Farmer Tan, one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, only like 4' 8" tall but bags of enthusiasim. Went for a swim in the river that day it was something like 35 degrees. Following day set off for the rice terraces and nearly crashed on a mountain road, just the once though, probably the average near miss count for any road journey in China!

Dazahi and the rice terraces were spectacular just a shame when we went on the day long trek it was raining and low cloud. Then a 17hr train journey to Shenzhen to cross the border to Hong Kong.

HK is such an easy place to live even if it is super expensive. Had five days here and they've been great. The symphony of lights using the skyline is even better than something Disney could put on.

Anyway thats the update

China part 14/29/07

Hi Blog,

Writing to you from rainy Yangshuo in the South west of China. First rain of the trip and it is tipping down.

Started the trip in Beijing where I managed to see the Forbidden city, Tiananmen Sq, the huatongs by bike, see a kung fu show and sample a bit of the nightlife from a rooftop bar.

Moved onto the Great Wall 4hrs outside of Beijing and spent 2 days trekking over some of the wall that has not been repaired and is around 600 years old. Some of it was well treacherous but exciting. Could have fell to my death at anytime on day 1. Fantastic.

Stayed in Xi'an, the ancient capital for 3 days and visited the Terracotta Warriors, the eighth wonder of the world. Good times and Xi'an but had to move onto amazing Shanghai.

Could have done with another couple days here but still managed to get up the Jin Mao tower, all 88 stories for some amazing night time views. Also went out to a club and danced on a bar for a bit. A typical Thursday night in Shanghai.

Mataresse Bastardo! Matarese Bastardo! Mataresse Bastardo!

So many stories, so many songs, so many pics, so many vids, So much beer!

The 4 days in Italia were possibly the best few days in a foreign country ever.

The locals were friendly, the drink was cheap and the Ultras taught us new songs. Did not stop laughing for the whole tour. Cannot wait to do it all again.

Italia! Italia!

Whats the story Balamory.....

Doh a Deer a female deer......

Italia, Italia!

Just picked up ma kilt and it is now 9 hours until the flight takes off hopefully with everyone aboard it but with a trip to the Horseshoe the savo and many hours to kill in the airport you never know what might happen.

Saturday was a great laugh, Counting house was buzzing as usual and Armstrongs was good too even if the round did come to 42!!!!! Enjoyed drinking so much Howf and I managed to miss the first 6 minutes of the game standing outside in a queue. That did mean there were no queues a the pie stand so every cloud has a silver lining.

We may have played pretty poorly on Saturday but with the chances we created we should have been on easy street by half time.

Heres hoping for a Scotland win (unlikely I know) on Wednesday and then we can look forward to singing Doe a deer in Austria. We can but dream.

Show them the whole thing!!

Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo!

I will wait 500 hours3/5/07

As Mr Murray has said only 500 hours until the banter bus leaves Prestwick for the old country with 5 Bo'ness boys and 9 radges from Kirky heading to Bari (southern Italy) via Milano to see the Scots give the World Champions a bloody nose.

Build up has been nothing short of chaotic. First of all the tallies leave it until the last possible minute to announce Bari as the venue. Then it turns out there are only about 5 hotels in the whole of Bari. Thankfully the boy Bales found us a sweet gig in a four star bad boy with a sauna and everything.

Then the tallies try and ruin it by saying the stadium is unsafe and threaten to move the game to the eternal city. Thankfully that never happened and the banter machine can step up a gear. Especially with everyone who applied for a ticket receiving one for a whole 10 euros.

Bari is the resting place of the original Saint Nicholas and it is currently 20 degrees and sunny.

you better watch out
you better not cry
you better not shout
and i'm tellin' you why
the Tartan Army's comin' to town

We'll drink when you are sleeping
We'll drink when your awake
and if you keep your bar open
You'll get rich and we'll get jaked
